So the final Great Awakening takes place. Multitudes are saved. Lives are transformed. But notice this: Jesus describes the response to this Awakening in the Last Days. Rather than the culture being transformed as in previous Awakenings, the culture fights back. Look at Matthew 24:9. Jesus says, “They will deliver you up….” The word that He used here was a technical term meaning that they will hand you over as a prisoner for punishment. Now think about this for a minute. What do you think is going to happen when a bunch of new Christians who know beyond a shadow of a doubt what has happened and what is going to happen get fired up and start preaching the gospel. The begin to tell anyone and everyone who will listen that Jesus is the only way of salvation, that the false religions of the day are deceiving them, that the political leader who claims to have the answers is in reality is a great deceiver known as the Antichrist, and that tribulation like they’ve never experienced before is on the way? I’ll tell you what is going to happen — the culture is going to be “offended” and will hand the Christians over to be tortured and killed because they will be hated by all nations because of their commitment to Jesus Christ.
Understand something. Even some of our elected leaders in the highest offices of the land have started saying that Christians need to get on board with their agenda and stop being so divisive. As time goes by and if the current Pope gets his wish for a new world order, which he will, these leaders are going to start saying that Christians are fanatics and are a threat to their one-world government, to the peace that the world desperately needs, to the unification of all religions into one.
And do you know what is going to happen once the Antichrist is in place following the rapture? Thousands upon thousands of new Christians preaching the gospel will be martyred for their faith. You think it’s bad around the world now? There have been one million martyrs in the last ten years, but that is not even comparable to what will happen. Look at Rev. 6:9-11 where John writes about the multitude of souls beneath the altar in heaven, martyrs slain for the word of God and their testimony. This is what Jesus is talking about in Mt. 24.
Sadly, much of this persecution is going to come from those professing to be Christians. From what I can gather through my studies, there are three major convulsions that are going to affect the world in general at this time: a coming one-world government, global economic control, and a one-world religion resulting from an overall apostasy that infiltrates the world. Revelation describes these vividly with the Beast or Antichrist leading the charge with the False Prophet supporting everything that he does. This false prophet is described in Revelation as appearing like a lamb, but his prophecies are the very voice of Satan. He will perform spectacular signs that will convince many to follow and worship the Antichrist. Jesus said it this way in v. 11. “Many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.”
