So Simple Even A Baby Can Do It #TraditionallySouthside

Okay, folks, I think we need to rethink this whole Christianity stuff. I mean, I think we have made it a whole lot harder than what it really is. Tell me if you think I’m wrong, okay, but if God thought that He could solve the whole problem with a Baby, maybe it just wasn’t all that difficult to begin with. Now, don’t go getting all holier-than-thou on me like I know some of you want to do, or I’m going to start calling you a bunch of “whitewashed sepulchers” like Jesus did. Give me a chance to explain what I’m talking about because, after all, it is Christmas, right?

So, here are my thoughts. “The Bible says it. That settles it.” I think that’s pretty clear. I have heard this and all of its variations for 54 years now. And, folks, it doesn’t matter whether we believe it or not. The Bible is God’s Word, and that makes it the final authority on EVERYTHING! So here is what that means. We are supposed to do what He says. When we don’t do what He says, we are supposed to repent and then start doing what He says. It is just that simple.

Let me give you an example. We are not supposed to steal. If we take something that doesn’t belong to us, we are supposed to repent of that sin. That means we give it back, ask for forgiveness for that sin, and make a commitment to not do that again. Pretty simple, isn’t it? Can you imagine what life would be like if everyone in the world would live like that? Well, we can’t, and that’s where the Baby comes in. Jesus came into the world because we refuse to live holy lives, and if we are to have any hope at all, we need the miracle of Christmas. So He came to earth as Immanuel, “God with us,” to show us how to live this kind of life (not the kind that needs repentance but the kind that never steals or lies or commits any of these sins) and then to be the sacrifice for our sins so that we can experience forgiveness and mercy and grace. And all who receives His sacrifice as the sacrifice for their sins can become the sons and daughters of God.

And then, this is where the simple part of Christianity comes in. We just start doing what God’s Word says. The Bible says it. That settles it. Can you imagine what the world would be like if just the Christians started truly doing that? Or what if we even started doing the two things that Jesus said summed up all of the others: loving God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength and loving each other as much as we love ourselves? Wouldn’t that be a Christmas miracle?

So from me to you, why don’t we rethink this Christian theology and practical religion stuff and boil it down to something so simple that even a Baby can handle. Merry Christmas!
